Dear Colleagues,
Please see details below of two lectures forthcoming in November at the
University of St Andrews. The series will continue next semester with
two further talks, the first of which, by Professor Olivier Laügt
(Bordeaux University) on the reform of the universities, will take place
in March.
These talks are designed especially for a general audience with no prior
expertise in French politics, and all are most welcome.

*UNDERSTANDING SARKOZY’S FRANCE*
Since his election in 2007, President Nicolas Sarkozy has launched
controversial reforms of French social,
political and economic institutions. What exactly is his agenda? How is
he attempting to apply it? What
will be the effects? Who is reacting and how?
This 2009‐10 lecture series is for all those who have an interest in
France – whether intellectual, cultural,
commercial or recreational – and who wish to understand the current
period of change. The speakers, all
eminent scholars, will tailor their remarks to the needs of a
non‐specialist audience. Lectures are in
English, or French with English translation, and will be followed by a
Question & Answer session.
