Here follows a list of the accepted symposia for the Conference.
This is only a preliminary list. To be definitely accepted, symposia must meet certain requirements:
- It must include at least three communications.
- These communications must ultimately be favourably evaluated by the members of the Program Committee.
- Participants cannot read any other paper within the Conference.
If any of these conditions is not fulfilled, such symposia will automatically become communications.
It is to be noted that although participants in the Conference are only allowed to read one communication (no more than one paper per person as first author will be accepted), they can be coordinator to more than one symposium.
Regardless of what the symposium abstract says, the organization will only consider to be part of a symposium those communications whose abstracts have been submitted individually.
Communication abstracts can be submitted using this Submission Form. All relevant fields must be filled-in, including the reference of the symposium where it is to be included (these symposium references are given on the list below). Deadline for abstract submission is February the 1st 2010.
Abstracts of all the preliminarily accepted symposia can be downloaded from here (PDF).
To submit new communications for a symposium, please contact its coordinator (their e-mails are also given).

THE CIRCULATION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Historiography has recently acknowledged that circulation of ideas and techniques plays a central role in the understanding of their evolution. Given that science and technology are international achievements, their dissemination could be the most distinctive element in their construction. Circulation is not a simple change of geographical place; it carries with it epistemological and philosophical changes as a result of the crossing of cultural and political boundaries. Networks cover a wide range of local settings, actors, institutions and interests, both in the production of new science and technology, and in the reception and appropriation of known science and technology.
The conference should stimulate studies and debates about the dissemination of science and technology: first, the circulation of ideas, theories, methods and practices; second, of objects, instruments, machines, artefacts, seeds, plants, minerals, drawings, illustrations, inscriptions, paintings…; third, of texts: manuscripts, printed books, textbooks, journals, letters, book notes; fourth, of scientists and technicians around the world in “grand tours”, trips for leisure, lecturing, business and industrial espionage; and fifth, of information about institutional organization, transmission of knowledge and the influence of local contexts, among others.
The organizers encourage all scholars to submit proposals for scientific sessions, symposia and individual papers related to the topic of the Conference.
1· Scientific Activities
- Plenary lectures given by invited experts;
- Sections covering the history of science, technology and medicine from antiquity to the present;
