Responsables: Francesca Merlin & Matteo Mossio Contact: francesca.merlin AT gmail.com   Avec le soutien de : Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne Institut d’Histoire et de Philosophie des Sciences et des Techniques  (IHPST) IAS Research Centre for Life, Mind and Society, University of the Basque Country     L’école thématique CNRS BioPerspectives proposera une formation avancée en philosophie de la biologie, centrée sur les défis philosophiques et épistémologiques posés par des domaines de recherche émergents, tels que l’épigénétique moléculaire,  la métagénomique, la biologie des systèmes et la biologie synthétique. Ces nouvelles disciplines remettent en cause l’approche dominante dans la biologie du XXe siècle, et ouvrent la voie à une perspective plus interactive et intégrative, en s’appuyant notamment sur des nouvelles technologies pour la production et analyse de données (comme par exemple les techniques de séquençage à haut débit et des nouveaux algorithmes de gestion et de traitement des données expérimentales). Une telle expansion et diversification de la biologie entraînent des transformations majeures, à la fois théoriques et méthodologiques, dans l’étude du fonctionnement, du développement et de l’évolution des organismes biologiques. Longtemps focalisée sur les enjeux de la biologie de l’évolution, la philosophie de la biologie doit aujourd’hui élargir son spectre de recherche et renouveler en profondeur les frontières de sa réflexion. L’objectif central deBioPerspectives est de dégager les principaux enjeux conceptuels et épistémologiques sur lesquels la philosophie de la biologie devra se pencher au cours des prochaines années. L’école appliquera une approche interdisciplinaire, en réunissant des experts internationaux venant à la fois de la philosophie et de la biologie. En plus des cours dispensés les matins, les après-midis seront consacrés aux ateliers de groupe et aux discussions, qui donneront l’occasion d’échanges et interactions approfondis entre les enseignants et les participants.

Lors de la pré-inscription, les candidats doivent répondre négativement dans la rubrique consacrée aux présentations (orale, poster).

Le comité scientifique enverra une réponse au plus tard le 20 février 2016.

Les candidats retenus devront s’enregistrer à l’école et payer les frais d’inscription sur la plateforme AZUR (lien à venir). L’échéance pour l’enregistrement est le 1^er mars 2016.

L’inscription coûte 200 euros pour les étudiants, et 350 euros pour les autres participants. Elle est gratuite pour les personnels du CNRS. Elle inclut l’hébergement et le petit-déjeuner pour 5 nuits et les déjeuners pour 4 nuits. Tous les participants seront hébergés à l’Institut d’Études Scientifiques de Cargèse.

  With the support of Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne Institut d’Histoire et de Philosophie des Sciences et des Techniques  (IHPST) IAS Research Centre for Life, Mind and Society, University of the Basque Country     The CNRS School BioPerspectives will offer an advanced training in philosophy of biology, by focusing on the philosophical and epistemological challenges originated by the emergence of new research domains as, in particular, molecular epigenetics, metagenomics, systems biology and synthetic biology. Those new disciplines challenge the mainstream approaches in biology during the 20^th century, and open the way to a more interactive and integrative perspective, by relying on new technologies for data production and analysis (as, for instance, next-generation sequencing techniques and new algorithms for treating massive experimental data). Such an expansion and diversification entail major transformations – both theoretical and methodological – in the study of the functioning, development and evolution of biological organisms. After having mostly focused for several decades on evolutionary biology, philosophy of biology must today widen its scope, and profoundly renew the object of its reflexion.  The central objective of BioPerspectives is to identify the main conceptual and epistemological challenges with which philosophy of biology will deal for the next decade and beyond. The school will apply an interdisciplinary approach, by bringing together international experts coming from both philosophy and biology. The organizing committee will send an answer by February 20^th 2016.
Accepted applicants will have to register with the school by paying the inscription fees through the AZUR platform (link tba). Deadline for final payment is March 1^st 2016. Registration costs 200 euros for students, and 350 euros for other participants. The school is free for CNRS personnel. It includes accommodation and breakfast for 5 nights and lunches for 4 days.
