Robots and/or Architecture ?

How the convergence of AI, robotics and automation is reconfiguring architecture

3 rd Digital Knowledge Study Day – Wednesday, April 13, 2016 – Location : ENSAPM / Digital Knowledge (M° Saint-Germain-des-Prés), Room 206, 9am-4pm

Automation, robotics and A.I. are today acting as a powerful trio bringing more and more challenges to
established social and economical orders. This process happens both at a fast pace and at a worldwide
scale. In the fields of architecture and construction, for once reunited under the same shifting horizon, a
radical change seems underway.

The study day-conference promoted by the Digital Knowledge Department of ENSAParis Malaquais will
open the discussion between practicians, theoreticians and academics producing relevant knowledge
related to the topic. The goal is to draw the current state of the art of the convergence of automation,
robotics and A.I. when they are imported in architecture and construction. The questions which arise are
at the same time epistemological, technical, economical and political. No less than the discipline or
architecture is at stake in this reconfiguration.

Our debates will logically capitalise on previous symposiums organized by DK : " Computational Politics
and Architecture : From the Digital Philosophy to the End of Work" (2012) and "Artificial Intelligence: the
end of intelligence and architecture as we know them" (2015). The conference is also part of the Master
Seminar programme "La connaissance computationnelle."
