L’accident est un invariant du cadre bâti et des opérations de construction sur le temps long de l’histoire. D’une grande diversité d’objet et d’ampleur, ces épisodes méritent d’être explorés dans une perspective historique de manière plus systématique qu’ils ne l’ont été généralement. Loin d’être occasionnels, ils sont en effet coutumiers de la vie des constructions. Inattendus, importuns et même parfois intolérables, ces évènements induisent une production documentaire proportionnelle à leur importance, d’ordre médiatique, technique et juridique entre autres, fournissant autant de sources pour envisager l’histoire de la construction sous un angle décalé. Nous retiendrons trois axes de recherche dans cet appel à contributions : - la recherche des causes et des responsabilités ; - la gestion immédiate des conséquences de l’accident ainsi que la gestion et la prévention du risque accidentel.

 

Les propositions sont attendues pour le 15 février 2022. Les langues admises sont l’une des langues suivantes : français, italien, anglais, espagnol, allemand et portugais.

Please find enclosed the call for papers in English for the international journal of construction history Ædificare on the theme of accidents in construction.

 

The prospect of an accident. When construction fails...

Thematic dossier coordinated by Robert Carvais and Guy Lambert

 

Accidents are an invariable feature of the built environment and construction operations over the long term of history. Varying greatly in nature and scope, these episodes deserve to be explored in a historical perspective in a more systematic way than they generally have been. Far from being exceptional events, they are in fact a regular occurrence in the life of constructions. Owing to their unexpected, unwelcome and even sometimes intolerable nature, these events lead to a documentary production proportional to their importance, including of a media, technical and legal nature, thus providing a wealth of sources for considering the history of construction from a different angle. Three lines of questioning are proposed for this issue of the journal Ædificare: - the search for causes and responsibilities; - Immediate and emergency management of the consequences of an accident and Prevention and accidental risk culture.

 

The deadline for submissions is 15 February 2022. The languages accepted are one of the following: French, Italian, English, Spanish, German and Portuguese.
